German Bilingual

German Bilingual provides students with opportunities to acquire and maintain language skills in German and English. All programming is based on curriculum determined by Alberta Education. Students enrolled in German Bilingual will receive the same high-quality education available in all of our programs. Approximately 50% of programming is in German, including Mathematics and German Language Arts, and 50% of programming is in English.

Goals

  • Develop language and literacy skills in German and English, and to use both to communicate in the classroom
  • Learn about the cultures of German-speaking countries

Eligibility

  • To register in Kindergarten or Grade 1, no previous knowledge of German is required.
  • Students entering the program after Grade 1 are considered on an individual basis.

How do I support my child’s learning?

  • Ask your child’s teacher for suggestions.
  • Read to your child at home in your family’s language.
  • Check SchoolZone for information from the school and your child’s teacher.
  • Check the Google Site/Classroom created by your child’s teacher.
  • Contact the Association for English - German Bilingual Education of Edmonton (AEGBEE), an association created to support, promote and guide the German Bilingual program.
