French Immersion

French Immersion provides students with opportunities to acquire and maintain language skills in French and English. All programming is based on curriculum determined by Alberta Education. Students enrolled in French Immersion will receive the same high-quality education available in all of our programs. French Immersion students receive 100% of their instruction in French in Kindergarten, Grade 1 and part of Grade 2. Students begin the English Language Arts and Literature curriculum at midpoint of Grade 2 and continue in Grade 3-12.

Goals

  • Develop language and literacy skills in French and English, and to use both to communicate in the classroom
  • Learn about the cultures, traditions and celebrations of French-speaking communities

Eligibility

  • To register in Kindergarten or Grade 1, no previous knowledge of French is required.
  • Students entering the program after Grade 1 are considered on an individual basis.
  • Students can also enter the Late French Immersion program in Grade 7.
